Robert Gorodetsky (The Rob Style) is a high stakes sports gambler who recently pled guilty to stealing 9.6 million US dollars in fraud schemes. This flashy sports gambler has been portraying himself as “the next big thing” in the world of high-end gambling for a long time. He used to frequent casinos and had his crew that hung around him. But when he pled guilty to the fraud, he seemed to have lost all his vocal abilities.

Other gamblers and people used to know him for his flashy Instagram. He also used to visit his favorite lavish casinos in branded clothes, expensive jewelry, and top-of-the-line cars. But behind that extravagant lifestyle of ‘Big Rob’, a much terrible incident was taking place.

His fraud was divided into two parts. One was filing a false tax return and another was a fraud against an unnamed individual. In the second felony, he stole almost 9.6 million US dollars from this individual between 2014 and 2017. This unnamed person trusted Gorodetsky with his money and thought that he was investing them in a trustworthy place which will get him goof returns. Obviously, the gambler led him to believe so. But in the end, it was found that he was using this money mostly in casinos. He would bet on high-stakes games and sports and also live a very lavish lifestyle with his stolen money. He flaunted his lifestyle on his social media which his fans celebrated. But veteran gamblers who know the nooks and crannies of this life did not support it.

As it turns out, they were right. While flaunting his money and proclaiming to be the next big thing in the world of gambling, he was actually extorting money from an innocent person. This fraud has resulted in his imprisonment and penalty. He can get up to six years in prison and he also has to repay 7.9 million US dollars.

The 27-year-old gambler from Northbrook known for his careless betting tendencies. He has bet millions on NFL, NBA, tennis, soccer, high-end games, and even high school games. Gorodetsky once bet 350,000 US dollars on a single NFL Sunday. He claimed to have a 65% success rate even though he didn’t seem to do any research or have a solid gambling plan. Which seemed fishy to veteran gamblers as they know this world inside out.

Their speculations were not wrong, even though they didn’t know the depth of Gorodetsky’s crimes. The gambler showed fraudulent bank statements to his victim and kept taking money from him with the promise of great returns. He did this for three whole year’s and he pled guilty in 2020. Not only did he spend the extorted money on extravagant bets, but he also spent almost 2.2 million US dollars to feed his lavish living. Which includes living, clothing, travel, and entertainment expenses. While he promised the victim that his money was being bet on trustworthy stock markets and he will gain his money back with serious returns.

Gorodetsky is a New Trier High School graduate who grew up in North Shore. His father is a radiologist and his mother works in real estate. According to research, Gorodetsky used to gamble online since his high school days. His success rate from that era, however, remains unknown. He also joined the University of Arizona after completing high school. But he dropped out of there soon after joining.

Gorodetsky came into the limelight in 2017, at the height of his fraud. He was probably one of the most controversial yet compelling figures in sports betting. He attained his limelight by the way he portrayed his lifestyle on social media. Making gambling seem like something lavish. The young fans he influenced wanted to be like him. They believed that he was the next big shot of the gambling world. But as it turns out if something is too good to be true, it usually is. His fraud affected not only the victim but also a lot of normal people who believed him.

In the courtroom, however, he was a meek individual in a simple black suit. The exact opposite of his carefully crafted social media personality and brand. The way he frauded a person and made a whole crowd believe in his impossible gambling powers is truly a mesmerizing story.
